Easwaran Sings His Mantram

The Mantram

In this hour-long recording Easwaran sings his mantram, just as he heard his granny sing it to him when he was a child.

Easwaran on Listening to the Mantram:

My spiritual teacher, my mother’s mother, would get up between three and four every morning, and she liked sweeping the veranda at that time. I would still be asleep, but while I was half asleep, half awake, I could hear her singing the mantram while she swept, the familiar words seeming to blend with the cool breeze that blew through the coconut palms just before dawn.

Hare Rama, Hare Rama
Rama Rama, Hare Hare
Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna
Krishna Krishna, Hare Hare

I think it was then that the mantram must have gradually entered into the depths of my consciousness without my knowledge.

Using This Recording

Easwaran's core instruction for using a mantram is to repeat it silently in the mind,  whenever possible. When you are ill or having a difficult time, or supporting someone else going through a difficult time, the mantram is a particularly great support.

We’ve included this recording on our website because many members of our community have found it to be helpful to their spiritual practice – they enjoy the beauty of Easwaran’s voice repeating such an ancient, holy mantram. Of course, this is just one of a number of options for extending your use of the mantram. We each develop our own way to expand our mantram practice and drive the mantram deep into our consciousness. The way in which we do this varies from person to person, and our use of the mantram may evolve over time.

If the Hare Rama mantram is your personal mantram, listening to Easwaran’s recording, even just for a few minutes, can help you extend your mantram practice. If you’re lying in bed ill, or recovering from surgery, this recording can really help you to hold on to the mantram, calming the mind and giving you faith and courage.

If this is not your mantram, listening to this recording can still help you to connect with Easwaran and benefit from his dedication to this practice. For Easwaran, as for Mahatma Gandhi, the mantram really was the staff of life.
