Easwaran comments on the contributions from major historical figures to the idea that we have to remake ourselves to remake the world, as well as transcending our legacy to attain the supreme goal.

Talk 5a: Climbing the Peaks of the Spirit - Easwaran uses the metaphor of extreme mountaineering to present a vision of our true destiny. He describes how we can transcend our evolutionary legacy and harness our will and desire to attain the goal.

Talk 5b: Changing Ourselves to Change the World - Easwaran comments on quotes from major figures, both spiritual and secular. The date of the talk is January 3, 1987, so his theme is renewal – not just of ourselves, but of the world we live in. His first quote, from Mahatma Gandhi, sums up his main theme: “As human beings, our greatness lies not so much in being able to remake the world (that is the myth of the atomic age), as in being able to remake ourselves.”
